The nature of study has been physically changed by technology, enabling us to work flexibly in ways and at times previously unimaginable. In the past you had to go to the library to find physical books and catching up on a lecture meant borrowing someone’s notes. Now, if you have a mobile device or PC, you can access lots of study material whenever and wherever you choose. It’s common for tutors to record content, ebooks can be borrowed 24/7, module websites capture your study journey and bring together the resources you need.

Learn as you commute

Do you have a long commute? Why not make the most of that time and pre-load audio materials on your mobile and listen as you ride/drive? Or use the Wi-Fi on our buses to browse module reading lists and the library catalogue to get reading key texts ready for your workshop or seminar. En-route chat to your study pals about the reading – pose questions together ready for when you see your tutor. Carry on the debate after class using discussion boards, online chat and/or social media.

Our staff are continually working to create and curate engaging and helpful study materials. To make the most of these try to think flexibly about how university will fit into your life – make the most of any commuting time, use your own preferred ways to keep in touch for study with peers, find a space that works for you (library, coffee shop etc) and then plug into study.
